Maptor

MAPTOR has been designed to bring convenience to travellers who need help finding their way in unknown places. MAPTOR projects a map onto any surface and indicates one’s location using GPS.

When you’re backpacking or carrying a lot of luggage, unfolding and folding a bulky paper map is annoying and inconvenient. Also, it can take time to find your exact location on a paper map – particularly when you are in a foreign place. MAPTOR is a portable device that conveniently projects an image of a map onto any surface – a wall, the ground, or the palm of the hand for example. The user can determine which maps are to be installed in the device. MAPTOR has a GPS, which indicates the user’s current position, making it easier to find one’s way.

Being small enough to be worn on a string around the neck, MAPTOR has great mobility. Through the creation of various prototypes, grips were designed to enhance comfort and ease of use. MAPTOR can zoom in and out, as well as expand or reduce the map size through its simple button operation. MAPTOR is made with the environmentally friendly, biodegradable plastic PLA (polylactic acid).
