Cue is a video-effects device for video jockeys (VJs). The design combines a computer and a beamer with specially designed software.
Cue’s main features are a 15.4-inch touch-screen and a rotary control that is movable on a linear axis. The concept is based on the direct and fast selection provided by a touch-screen, and the haptic input of the control. This combination enables fast and precise operation with the use of both hands.
Applications and options within different sections of the interface are shown on the touch-screen. Context-sensitive graphics that appear around the control can be scaled and manipulated by moving and rotating them. The zoom function enlarges and reveals details of the graphics, transforming them into interactive icons. The VJ is able to not only mix loops intuitively and edit them with effects, but also browse through large clip banks.
Cue is composed of an injection-moulded ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene) bottom shell and a coated acrylic top shell in black that covers and protects the touch screen. Both shells are held together by a rubberised aluminium bracket to protect Cue in rougher environments. The bracket can be folded back to tilt Cue to a maximum of 10 degrees to provide an ergonomic angle for working. The slim and compact design allows ease of transportation and flexibility of use with a laptop.
