Saving space as well as water in the bathroom is the primary aim of the integrated I-SAVE unit.
Asia is densely populated, and the bathroom is often a neglected space in the overall spatial plan of residences. I-SAVE combines the lavatory, the basin and the bath as a single unit in order to minimise space whilst maximising use. Making use of what would usually be ‘gaps’ in the bathroom spatial plan, it creates a sense of both partitioning and space, transforming a confined area into something more receptive.
I-SAVE conserves the water from showers and hand washing and reuses it for flushing the lavatory. People typically use 5-10 litres of water per minute during showering. An average shower of 5 minutes would produce 25-50 litres of waste water, whereas the lavatory only consumes 12 liters of water per flush. Thus, based on the above statistics, the I-SAVE unit will help to save substantial amounts of water which could then be put to other uses.
